History

(Main Article: History of the Tsardom)

The history of the Tsardom of United Slavs can essentially begin several thousand years ago, with the expulsion of the Brotherhood of Slovinu from Earth and her early colonies. This brotherhood and its followers had been of particular nuisance and agitation to the authorities of Earth and what would become the Republic, and later the Core Worlds Authority. The bloodshed that they caused was unacceptable to the cosmopolitanist government of the era; the brotherhood was charged with terrorism, war mongering, and attempting to overthrow various colonial governments, all in the name of the Pro-Slavic Ideology. So the Brotherhood (once they were caught) and their followers, were exiled from Earth.

For a time, they wandered the space lanes of the frontier planets. Begging what scraps they might, and trying to survive in an universe that hated all that they stood for. After an unknown period of time, most historians believe it to be at least a generation after their exile, the Brotherhood found a home for themselves. Far away from the core worlds, and cosmopolitanism that they embodied, these Slavic exiles made their home on the distant worlds of a comfortable star, which they named Rodina, or 'homeland'.

Since the time of their misdeeds, Earth and the core worlds had tentatively forgiven these Slavs, and let them grow and prosper as they pleased. Things passed relatively unchanged year after year; during the war years, the Slavs fought, particularly hard it should be noted. The Prividenie Polevi (Bulgarian: Black Field), is site to one of the largest battlefields in the Sphere.

When the age of the republic finally came around, the Slavs were offered a free hand in establishing themselves as an integral part of said institution. The enemies they had made, and the wrongs had been forgotten by everyone except themselves. They were leary to join this fledgling Republic because they worried that it was simply another form of imperialism to control them and supress their culture.

They were half right. To this day, many supporters of the Republic acknowledge that it was another imperialist power, but also put forth that this did not matter, the benevolence that its core idea promoted made the imperialism that it utilised essentially harmless. It was not until the final centuries of the Republic that the Slavs joined, and it became apparent soon after, that this was not meant to be.

The Great Sundering occured just several hundred short years after the Slavs joined the Republic. This essentially destroyed any hopes that these people would ever have at joining any sort cosmopolitan instituion that the Republic embodied. With the closure of the manifolds, internal forces in Rodina collapsed the government that had supported the Republic, and the Tsardom was born.

Much like its predecessors on the Slavic homeworld of Earth, the Tsardom was born in great bloodshed and conflicts of ideas, but once it was established, it recieved, and demanded, such love and affection from its people, that its downfall seemed impossible. To this day, the Grand Tsarina holds a position of such reverence among her people, that she may as well be a diety.

In the five centuries of the sundering, the Tsardom increased its control over its population, and ensured its dominance for the indeterminable future. Where they were able, they bettered life for those they could, and where they were unable, things got worse. In cases such as the Albanian outpost of Fortesë Sigurvetmi, they got much worse.

During the Sundering, the Tsardom changed little, leaders rose and fell, and life improved for some, and got worse for others. This is actually noted as one of the most uneventful periods of history in the Tsardom, with nothing of great historical significance happening until shortly before the re-opening of the manifolds. In the final 30 years before the opening of the Manifolds,Tsesarevich (Heir Apparent) Yevpraksiya's mother and father were killed in mysterious circumstances. To this day, no official conclusion has ever been presented to the Republic, and there is much speculation as to who killed them.

Regardless of who her parents murderer(s)s was, Yevpraksiya was made the Tsarina of the Tsardom at the age of 17, and has continued to hold this title for the past 40 years. During her reign, the Rodina system has seen a great deal of change. Much of the aristocracy has been trimmed to more managable levels, the nobility has been put into line, so to speak, and much of the system's dilapitated or desperately outdated technology has been improved or replaced. One of her legacies that will most certainly live on far past her, is the vast expansion of the Tsardoms Imperial Slavic Forces. Even before the opening of the manifolds, Yevpraksiya opened the armories of the Tsardom full bore, and made the most sweeping logistical, tactical and strategic changes that the Slavs have ever seen. To some it would appear that she was preparing for war. She has of course denied these claims and silenced many of those who made them, but only time will tell.

Politics

(Main Article: Politics and Government of the Tsardom)

The Great Tsardom of United Slavic Peoples is ruled as an absolute Monarchy, with all power vested in the Grand Tsar, or Grand Tsarina. The Nobility that surrounds the monarchy exists for the purpose of carrying out the orders of the monarch in power.

Russians who had been among the most fervent (and the most numerous throughout the sector) were given a position of preiminance within the Tsardom, and a Russian was named the first Grand Tsar of the Great Tsardom. The royal line has continued (unbroken) to this day. There is some resentment to this among the other races, but this is kept to a minimal by the fact that the monarchy has such extensive power, that any rebellion holds little chance of success.

Grand Tsarina

Podkomissiya-Cari
The Podkomissiya-Cari, are the Sub-Tsars or Tsaristas that run the day-to-day goings on of each individual race. There is one for every Slavic race, and they all make small decisions for them, but all my be repelled by the Grand Tsarina.

Each Podkomissiya-Cari has the power to suggest policy to the Grand Tsarina, and to influence the tasks that Planetary Comissars must carry out.

Planetary Commissar
Within each planet, a Commissar is elected by the relevant Podkomissiya-Cari, who will carry out the tasks assigned by the planet's various Podkomissiya-Cari's. They have vast powers outlined in their mandate to serve the races of each planet, but may not move forward with any plans or actions without the preapproval or often proposal from the Podkomissiya-Cari.

At current, there are four Planetary Commissars, and one Special Commissar for the space station of Fortesë Sigurvetmi. Each with powers differing slightly, and little interaction with each other, other than in times of special circomstance.

Economy

Economically the Tsardom is largely agricultural in nature, with an overwhelming portion of its population working in the farming industries. Some of the more advanced planets (and continents on certain planets) contain industry and lifestyles closer to manifold earth. These areas are largely centered on the more richer areas of the system and individual planets, who have through luck or skill managed to maintain a higher level of developement than other areas. The other areas remain far more Agarian or Industrial/Post Industrial.

Novyjdom for all intents and purposes is the industrial and commercial center of the Tsardom, with most of the Slavic industrial production capacity centered there. In the area known as the 'Chernye Gory' or 'Black Mountains', there resides the largest conglomeration of factories and production facilities in the entire system. Once infamous for their massive amounts of pollution produced, in recent years, this reputation has begun to fall away as waste and pollution lessons as more modern technologies are adapted to better use.

As a single system, Rodina holds vast production capacity, thanks in no small part to its large population and plentiful resource spread. Thanks to this, along with its position on the 'Far Star' trade route, some systems and Star Nations, such as the West Point Traders Guild, have seen it as an attractive place to do business.

As more and more business deals are signed, the standard of living and overall economic health of the Slavs has begun to rise. Slowly at first, but with growing speed. If trends continue as they do, it is possible, maybe even likely, that the Tsardom of United Slavs will become a formidable economic power in the Beta Sector.

Foreign Relations

Speaking on a foreign relation's level, the Tsardom is largely self interested. They care little for outsiders and the trouble that usually acompanies them, and often manage to find ways that they are inferior to them. The Core Worlds are mistrusted, seeing them as both the conquerors of old, and new, who will seek to enslave the Slavs once more, but as they tentatively move forward, a small measure of trust grows from the Tsardom towards them.

While the CWA is mistrusted at present, other star nations have garned a better response from the Slavs, namely the West Point Traders Guild, the Outer Planets Coalition, and the Yodama Confederation.

The current Minister of Foreign Affairs is Konstantin Lyov Protaznechuck, an avowd interstellarist who is trying very hard to ensure that the Slavic people make the proper conections in the Galaxy now that the Manifolds have reopened. He has been considered something of a court favourite by some closer to the Tsarina, this position has enabled him to make some bold decisions that he would not otherwise been able to do. Analysts speculate that with Protaznechuck at the helm, the Slavs will remain fairy active in interstellar affairs.

Culture

(Main Article: Culture of the Tsardom)

The culture of the Tsardom is a highly robust (and at times elaborated upon) mix of all the Slavic cultures from Earth, often with modern variations that have come as part of space travel and the like. One cultural trait of the Slavs that has carried with them through all these generations of war, disaster and migration, is extreme need to survive. An aspect of these 'new' Slavs that is seen in every aspect of their society now is the need to live on, not neccesarily to conquor, but to outlive, their enemies. This was seen in the early days before the Tsardom was established in so many of their people's ability to stand their ground and continue to live. 'Immovable as a mountain, and stubborn as a mule, the Slavs won't go anywhere unless they want to.'

While the old religions of Earth have died out in many places, the Tsardom practices a complex and dilouted form of the old Orthodoxy churches of Eastern Europe, combined with much of the early Slavic paganism. The Tsardom Slavic Orthodox Church. These changes have left the Tsardom with a highly ethnically centered religion which caters to their desperate need to survive.
